Do looks matter?

Looks play an important part in relationships; there's no way around it. We can't create feelings of attraction when they're not there. Attraction isn't solely based on how you look, but the way you look is definitely part of it. It's going to be there; it's going to be a part of it. However, you can definitely improve your looks or let them not do the best they can, depending on your participation in how you present yourself. You need to actively participate so that you look the best that you can.
Working out is a huge part of that. We can tell if somebody is a fit version of themselves or an out-of-shape version, and that seriously affects the way they look. The way you groom yourself and the way you dress also make a huge impact on your appearance. Those looks are going to matter to other people; they're going to impact their perception.
Also, once you get into a relationship, a lot of times, looks will change because people think, "Oh well, I'm not dating anymore, so I don't have to be as attractive or put in the effort." Well, maybe if both of you do that, it works out. But if you want to keep a certain edge of excitement in the relationship, continue to make the effort.
You shouldn't be improving your looks solely or even primarily for the purpose of attracting someone else. You should be bringing out the best version of yourself in physical attractiveness because it makes you feel the best and represents the best version of you. You get to choose how you're going to experience this life. If you experience life in a passive way and your body is just falling to pieces, that's one way to live. Or, you can experience life in a way where you are actively engaged and improving the way you look and feel on many levels.
Once you enter into a relationship, do you really want that dynamic energy inside of you to change just because you found somebody? Personally, I want to stay in the experience of being the best version of myself, whether I'm single or in a relationship. I hope that the person I'm with shares a similar value—wanting to be the best version of themselves throughout.
Looks definitely play an important role; don't fool yourself into thinking they don't. They absolutely do. Everybody has good material to work with, as well as aspects they need to work around. Figure out the best version of what works for you and keep improving it.
We're never done with it. There's always room for improvement in style, peak performance, and confidence. We're never finished with it. Keep playing with it, and keep moving forward.
